How to get a still from a video
- Add a video: drop it on the box, or tap Choose a video and pick one from your phone.
- Drag the slider to the moment you want, or press play and pause near it.
- Step one frame at a time with the arrow buttons, or with ← and → on a keyboard.
- Pick JPG for a smaller file or PNG for an exact copy, and press Save this frame. Saved frames line up under the player, so you can grab several and compare.
The exact frame, at full size
A screenshot of a paused player captures your screen, at your screen's size, often with the player's buttons in the way. This saves the frame itself at the video's own resolution: 1920 × 1080 for a 1080p clip, 3840 × 2160 for 4K. The frame you see is the frame you get, because the page saves it from the same player that shows it.Fast motion blurs inside a single frame, because the camera's shutter stayed open while things moved. If a frame looks soft, step one or two either way: a neighbor is often sharper.JPG or PNG
A JPG is a fraction of the size and right for posting, sharing and thumbnails. A PNG keeps every pixel as the video decoded it, which helps if you'll edit the frame, remove its background or print it.From a frame to a thumbnail
Leap's YouTube thumbnail recipe takes a photo, such as a frame you saved here, and your title, and makes a 16:9 thumbnail with the title in big, readable type. That runs in the Leap studio and is paid per image. If the frame is small, the free image upscaler makes it 2x or 4x larger first.Rewrite a text in your own wordsPaste it to see what a rewrite costs.
