How to compress a video
- Add a video: drop it on the box, or tap Choose a video and pick one from your phone.
- Pick how small: half the size, under 25 MB, under 10 MB, or a size of your own in MB.
- Check the line under the button: the size it will come to, and the frame size it needs to get there. Trim the start or the end if it has to be shorter to fit.
- Press Compress video. Download the MP4, or on a phone press Share to send it or save it to your photos.
How it gets small without turning to mush
To hit a size, the tool works out how many bits a second the picture can use once the sound is paid for. Then it picks the largest frame that still looks clean at that rate, so a minute of 1080p squeezed under 10 MB comes out at 960 × 540 instead of a smeared 1080p. The sound is copied over as it was.Discord takes files up to 10 MB without Nitro, and Gmail takes attachments up to 25 MB. A shorter clip has more to spend on every second, so trimming is the surest way to keep it sharp under a small limit.Your video stays on your device
Your browser decodes the clip and encodes it again as an MP4 with your phone's or computer's own video encoder. Nothing is sent to Leap or anyone else, so a big file doesn't have to upload first, and once the page has loaded it keeps working without a connection.Something worth sending
If the clip is for a group chat, Leap's effects make one from a single photo of a friend: they melt like soft-serve, get shaken in a snow globe, or get beamed up by a UFO. Those run in the Leap studio and are paid per clip. The compressor stays free.Rewrite a text in your own wordsPaste it to see what a rewrite costs. Nothing is sent until you choose to.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. There's no account, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you compress. The work happens on your own device, so it costs Leap nothing.
No. Your browser reads the clip and makes the smaller MP4 inside the tab. Nothing from the video is sent to Leap or to anyone else.
As small as you ask, down to a 640 × 360 picture at about 150 kb/s. A long video may still not fit under 10 MB at that; the page tells you before you start, and trimming it gets it under.
A little, as with any compression, and less the more room it has. Half the size usually keeps the frame size, while a tight limit steps the frame down rather than letting the picture break up into blocks.
